Hi Jason,
Huge fan of the blog- you put out some good stuff, keep it up!
I actually had a question for you as an aspiring mortgage broker… I
was hoping to steal a couple valuable minutes of your time and get
some input.
I really like the mortgage business, but the marketing part is tough.
I'd really like to build a diverse group of dedicated referral
partners:
1) any tips?
2) more specifically, I am trying to get in with Realtors but this has
proven difficult. Most don't really want to talk to financial folks,
or already have a dedicated referral partner they kick mortgage
referrals too. What's the best way for an up and comer to get his foot
in the Realtor door, and prove myself a reliable and responsive
referral partner?
Thanks, I really appreciate it!!
Thanks for being a fan Max,
Here are a few points of advice that helped me when I was getting started.
Relationship Marketing:
Often Realtors don't want to speak to financial guys and Loan Consultants because they are a dime a dozen. You MUST show that you are different and ADD VALUE to the relationships you cultivate. Don’t just offer pre approvals offer to answer questions and team up on marketing campaigns Remember the relationship must benefit the agent in order for them to refer business to you. I cultivated many Real Estate Relationships over the years by regularly attending groups like BNI, the Chamber of Commerce and Contra Costa Realtors in Motion. See links below.

BASIC MARKETING TIPS
Here are a few things that really helped me learn more about marketing online aside from my offline networking efforts.
Prospecting is Key. Spend at least an hour a day prospecting for new clients and asking for referrals. You can maximize your prospecting time with my favorite tool, CallFire. http://www.callfire.com This service let you make 30 calls in the time you would normally make 5. It is great!
Learning about Online Marketing: Set up an email service. My favorite is http://JasonWheeler.biz/iContact it's an inexpensive way to effectively stay in front of your clients and colleagues.
The number one best place to learn about all the online marketing strategies to market your business that I have found over the years is http://ControlMySuccess.com This inexpensive club offers MASSIVE VALUE on how to market yourself online.
Set up a Blog. I have a source that I will share with you to set up a FREE site just like mine but customized to you if you would like me to. Just let me know.
The Written Note: Every Monday morning I make a point to send at least 6 hand written note cards to clients and colleagues for birthdays, events, thank you, or just to say hi. I recommend getting custom made cards at http://VistaPrint.com
I hope this helps you. Drop me a line if you ever want to chat.
